January is National Soup Month.

In celebration of this event, the Warren Public Library is sponsoring its eighth annual Soup Recipe Contest on Monday, Jan. 23. Please call the Warren Public Library at (814) 723-4650 no later than Thursday, Jan. 12 to pre-register for this event and let us know how many soups you will be entering. A minimum of 6 soups must be entered in order for this event to go forward.

Participants may enter a maximum of three soups. The soups, along with a written copy of the recipe, must be prepared and brought to the Library on Monday, Jan. 23 between 10 and 11:30 a.m. for judging. A panel of multiple judges will taste each soup and determine the first, second and third place winners.

The three winning recipes will be served in the Slater Room on the third floor of the Library on Monday, Jan. 30. The public is invited to taste these winning recipes between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Crackers and a beverage will also be served. Donations to defray the cost of the soup luncheon will be accepted but are not mandatory.

Recipe booklets containing all recipes submitted from this year’s contest will be available at the library.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the cooks of the 3 winning recipes.
