Posley explodes for 47, Bonnies boost NCAA tourney hopes

ROCHESTER, N.Y. St. Bonaventure’s Marcus Posley exploded for a career-high 47 points as St. Bonaventure topped St. Joseph’s 98-90 in a game that significantly boosts the Bonnies push for an ‘at-large’ selection in the NCAA Tournament.

Posley shot 15-of-19 from the floor and 11-of-12 from the free throw line in posting the highest single-game total by a Division I player this season.

The 47 points were four off the school record of 51 set by Bob Lanier against Seton Hall in 1969.

The Bonnies (21-7) lead at halftime 41-28, but quickly saw that lead disappear as the Hawks (24-6) came out of the intermission firing, and tied the game at 58 with 11:58 remaining in the game.

The Bonnies then sprinted out on an 18-2 run to take a 76-60 lead with just under eight minutes left. They would not relinquish that lead.

Dion Wright added 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to help the Bonnies score a season high 98 points.

Isaiah Miles led the Hawks with 19 points.

Virginia Tech 65,

Pittsburgh 61

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Zach LeDay had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Virginia Tech used a 16-4 second-half run to pull away from Pittsburgh in a 65-61 victory Tuesday night, the Hokies’ fourth in a row.

Seth Allen and Justin Robinson added 10 points each for the Hokies (17-13, 9-8 Atlantic Coast Conference), who pulled into a tie with the Panthers for seventh place with one regular season game remaining for each.

Michael Young scored 16 to lead the Panthers (20-9, 9-8) and James Robinson had 11.

Pittsburgh trailed by as many as 13 after halftime and was behind 64-52 before scoring the next nine points to get within 64-61 on Young’s dunk with 1:08 remaining. The Hokies, who had three turnovers during the Pitt run, missed a 3-pointer, giving Pitt a chance to tie, but Robinson’s shot was off the mark and LeDay hit a free throw with 19.4 seconds left to make it a two-possession game. The Hokies missed 10 of 15 free throws in the last 10 minutes.

LeDay’s basket with 7:37 left in the first half sparked a 12-0 run for the Hokies that gave them a 22-19 lead. The Panthers then scored seven straight, ending a more than 6-minute drought without a field goal, before the Hokies scored the final five points of the half to lead 27-26 at the break.

Earlier, Virginia Tech went scoreless for more than five minutes as the Panthers opened a 19-10 lead.
