Youngsville beats Union for 10th victory

Playing an afternoon game on Saturday less than 24 hours after a comeback win against Saegertown, the Youngsville Eagles once again showed their toughness, beating Union 53-49.

With the win, the Eagles clinched a double-digit win regular season at 10-11, and can go into the playoffs at .500 with a victory at Eisenhower in their finale on Tuesday.

Gage Hendrickson, who scored 24 points the night before, had 25 more on Saturday.

For the second game in a row, the Eagles also made key free throws in the fourth quarter. Hendrickson was 5-for-5 in the fourth, while Joe Mack and Timber Bower both knocked down their two attempts each.

The Eagles also welcomed the return of Brady Olewine, who was sick and missed Friday night’s game. He finished with eight points, as did Mack. Hendrickson also had a double-double with 14 rebounds to go along with his points.

Caden Rainey led Union (7-12) with 11 points, while Quintin Weaver had six of his nine points in the fourth quarter to keep Union in the game.

After Tuesday’s regular season finale, the Eagles will hit the road for the first round of the District 10 Class 2A playoffs. That opponent is yet to be determined, as Tuesday’s results in Region 2 and Region 3 will decide the matchups.
