Warren swimmers set to embark on District 10 championships

To get to states, the Warren Area High School swim teams will have to travel out of state, to the District 10 championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.

On the boys’ side, Andrew Beyer and Stephen Ashbaugh certainly have aspirations of winning a D-10 title.

Beyer is the top seed in the 200 freestyle, and his seeded time of 1:51.88 is almost three seconds faster than the No. 2 seed, McDowell Matthew Lee. Beyer is also the No. 2 seed in the 500 freestyle, seeded less than a second behind McDowell’s Erich Fuhrman.

Ashbaugh, meanwhile, is the top seed in the 100 breaststroke, an event where teammate Hunter Smith is the No. 3 seed. Ashbaugh is also the No. 3 seed in the 100 butterfly. Meadville’s Wade Clark and McDowell’s Mattew Lee are the top two seeds in that event.

Other top three seeds for the Warren boys are Max Harrison (No. 2 in the 100 backstroke) and Derek Hahn (No. 3 in the 200 IM).

The full list of boys district entries also includes Carter Anderson (200 medley relay and 400 free relay alternate), Jason Bonavita (200 medley relay alternate), Marcus Bonavita (500 freestyle, 400 free relay), Connor Fehlman (200 IM, 100 breast, 200 free relay , 400 free relay alternate), Cade Johnson (200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay alternate, 400 free relay alternate), Christian Johnson (400 free relay ) and Logan Johnson (200 medley relay , 500 free, 200 free relay alternate, 100 breast and 400 free relay ).

The 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay are both seeded third, and the 200 free relay is a No. 2 seed.

For the girls, freshman Katie Beyer is the No. 3 seed in the 100 freestyle. She will also be competing in the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 free relay.

The 200 medley relay team is a No. 2 seed and the 200 free relay and 400 free relay are both seeded third.

The full list of girls’ entries also includes Cara Anderson (200 medley relay alternate, 200 free, 100 fly, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Sydney Govoni (200 medley relay, 400 free relay alternate), Gabrielle Hahn (200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay), Paige Johnson (200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 breast, 400 free relay), Kaelah Knupp (200 free relay alternate), Sarah Nugent (200 medley relay, 100 back, 400 free relay), Sophie Olson (200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Grace Peterson (200 medley relay alternate, 200 free relay alternate) and Eva Turner (200 medley relay alternate, 200 free relay alternate, 400 free relay).

Action gets underway on Friday at 2 p.m. with the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 100 fly and 200 free relay.

On Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. will be the 100 free, 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 400 free relay.
