Winter weather forces postponements for local teams

Inclement weather forced a number of postponements for Warren County sports teams on Wednesday.

Those contests involved Warren at General McLane girls basketball, Warren at Erie wrestling, Union City at Eisenhower wrestling Sheffield at Brookville boys basketball and Sheffield at Rocky Grove girls basketball.

The wrestling match between the Knights and the Bears is a big one, as both teams are currently unbeaten in Region 3 and are considered to be the two favorites to potentially win the region title. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday.

The Warren girls game has significant implications as well, as the Dragons (10-0 overall, 1-0 Region 6) and Lancers (7-2, 0-1) are part of a loaded Region 6. That game has been rescheduled for today. Warren is one of just two remaining girls teams in District 10, along with fellow R-6 contender Harbor Creek.

The wrestling situation involving Warren is a complicated one. The match against Erie has been moved to Monday.

Here’s where things get interesting.

The Warren vs. Eisenhower wrestling match that was scheduled for Jan. 30 has been postponed. That is the date of the District 10 team duals that both teams are hoping to qualify for.

The Warren-Eisenhower match has been rescheduled to Feb. 5, but if neither Eisenhower or Warren qualify for the PIAA state dual tournament, the date will be moved to Feb. 9 so that Warren does not have to wrestle on back-to-back days, per Warren AD Jeff White.

The makeup dates for both the Sheffield boys and girls are still to be determined.
