Sheffield had a game plan, but the Eisenhower duo of Emiley Wheeler and Lydia Giannini blew it up.

Wheeler exploded for a career-high 28 points and Giannini had 13 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as the Lady Knights (4-6) beat their county rivals for the second time this season, 47-17 on Wednesday.

“We started out well,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, whose team was coming off a lengthy layoff. “Not having played since last Saturday, we came out of the gates strong with 33 points at halftime.”

For Sheffield coach Brandon Troutman, it was another learning experience for his young team.

“We had a game-plan that we only executed 50 percent of,” he said. “We wanted to limit the touches in the post to Wheeler and Giannini. We did alright on Giannini, but not Wheeler.”

Wheeler scored 18 of her 28 in the first half, as the Lady Knights built a sizable margin, 33-6.

In addition, she also had six rebounds and three assists.

With the win, Eisenhower also improved to 4-0 against Warren County teams this season.

“It’s fun to play these games,” Logue said. “I’ve gotten to know a lot of these girls through the years, and it’s nice to watch them grow and get better and compete.”

For Sheffield, Mareena Bailey led the way with six points.

“We’re just not attacking on offense and being aggressive right now,” Troutman added. “Until we start doing that, we’re going to struggle to score.”

Also for Eisenhower, Giannini had two assists and two steals, while Delaney Chase dished out five assists.

Both teams return to the grind of region and league play next, with Eisenhower traveling to Cochranton on Saturday evening and Sheffield at Kane on Friday.
