Bulldogs notch tough road win over VC
A long layoff proved to be no problem for the Tidioute Bulldogs, as they earned a hard-fought 54-49 win over Venango Catholic on Thursday.
The Bulldogs (5-2) started out a little sluggish, but turned in a very impressive second-half performance.
Jared Veasey led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds in what was a balanced effort.
“We’ve played them enough in the summer, knew they’re a pretty decent team and knew it was going to be a tough game, especially at their place,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, 13-9 after the first quarter, but Tidioute rallied to tie the game at halftime, 21-21.
“We didn’t rebound the ball well in the first half, but dominated on the boards in the second half with Jared and Patrick (Shields),” Cotterman said.
The second half, they had their legs under them and it showed, as they outscored VC 18-14 in the third quarter and were able to close it out with a solid fourth.
Ryan Williams had 15 points and dished out three assists, Shields 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks and 4 steals and Derek Klos 10 points.
“We talked about starting the second half strong and we did,” Cotterman said. “We were a little more patient, too, making the extra pass.”
Tidioute overcame a huge game by VC’s Andrew Burda, who tallied a game-high 27 points.
After the holiday break, the Bulldogs hit a very busy stretch of their schedule, with a Saturday afternoon date at Youngsville looming, with JV at 1 p.m. and varsity to follow.
“We have a tough stretch of games coming up, but we’re playing well,” Cotterman said. “We’re just going to take it one game at a time.”
