Youngsville girls edge Tidioute

The Youngsville Lady Eagles rebounded from a tough loss at Sheffield Saturday with a win over another county opponent Tuesday.

The Eagles traveled to Tidioute and came away with a hard-fought, 41-35 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

“We had a better team effort tonight,” Youngsville coach Andy Sveda said. “We were a little more patient with the ball and were getting better shots.”

Youngsville led by six at the half and by as much as nine in the second half, but TCCS battled back to tie the game at 35 with approximately two minutes left to play.

“It was a hard battle tonight and we ended up on the losing side,” TCCS coach Christy Valentine said. “The girls had issues boxing out tonight and gave Youngsville way too many second chances under the basket.”

Erin Dunn and Sadie Hoffman hit field goals and free throws late in the game to seal the win. Hoffman finished with 18 points, while Dunn added 12 in the win.

The Eagles defense held the Bulldogs’ Nakiesha Krouse to just 12 points and three assists.

“Defensively Kamryn Weissinger and Lilly Lindell did a great job on Nakiesha Krouse,” Sveda said. “The team as a whole stepped it up tonight and that was great.”

Kelsey Nuttal was also in double figures for TCCS with 10 points and seven rebounds while Sunny Henderson came up with five blocks.

TCCS welcomes Cambridge Springs Thursday for a Region 2 battle. The Blue Devils are coming off a buzzer-beating win over Cochranton Tuesday.

Youngsville, meanwhile, will turn its attention to the other end of the county as they square off with Eisenhower in the Eagle’s Nest Thursday.

Youngsville won the junior varsity game, 36-12.

Mia Rafalski had 16 points for the Eagles.
