Tidioute boys, girls roll to season opening wins

Tidioute seniors Jared Veasey, Patrick Shields and Ryan Williams have played a lot of basketball together, and have high expectations for this season.

All three were terrific as the Bulldogs got off on the right foot, easing past Calvary Baptist on Friday, 50-28.

Veasey scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, Shields had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five assists and Williams six points and seven steals.

“All three of them have played a lot of basketball together,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “We stressed getting the ball into Jared’s hands early and he played a strong game. You can tell those guys have played four years together.”

The Bulldogs built a big lead at halftime, 27-6 and were never threatened.

“We started real well and were able to build a real comfortable lead,” Cotterman said. “We got a little sloppy in the second half, but when we play the way we’re capable of playing, we’re really good. It’s always good to come out with a win to start the year.

The Bulldogs, who are in District 10 this season, welcome District 9 foe Austin on Monday, looking to start the season 2-0.
