Lady Knights fall to Cambridge

Eisenhower’s Delaney Chase (13) locks in on defense against Cambridge Springs guard Rachel Swanson.

The beginning and the end were very good for Eisenhower, but the middle was all Cambridge Springs.

The Blue Devils showed why they are a traditional power with a 63-22 win over the Lady Knights on Thursday.

“As young as we are, we’re going to make mistakes,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “But they fought hard right to the end.”

What Logue was referring to was a charge taken by Madison Mohney at the very end of a game that wasn’t in doubt.

“In that situation, not everyone is going to step in and take that charge,” he said. “As coaches, that’s all you can ask for.”

Eisenhower’s Lilee Renninger (5) puts up a shot.

Eisenhower (3-3) actually took an early 2-0 lead on a jumper by Alexis Courtney, but after that it was a whole lot of Cambridge Springs.

Abby Wescott had a strong game for the Blue Devils (6-1), scoring a game-high 17 points, as their full-court press gave Ike fits.

“We’ve been working on the press-break in practice and panicked a little bit at times,” Logue said. “That will come with experience and the more they play together.”

Emiley Wheeler had 10 points to pace Eisenhower and also pulled down 11 rebounds and had 4 blocks. Courtney had 9 rebounds and Ike got a strong defensive effort from Delaney Chase.

The Lady Knights return to action on Saturday when they travel to Maplewood. Lydia Giannini, who missed the game with a minor injury, could return in that contest.

Eisenhower's Alexis Courtney drives the lane.
