Sabrina Anderson, a 2013 graduate of Warren Area High School, is headed to the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center to train with the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Team as a skeleton athlete. Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which a single athlete rides a small skeleton sled head-first down a frozen track.

The Warren native, 23, attended Slippery Rock University beginning in 2013, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science in 2016 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 2017.

During her time at SRU, Anderson competed as a heptathlete for the University track team. She was an eight-time Academic All-American, two-time All-American, and two-time Pete Nevins Scholar Athlete of the Year. She remains the pentathlon record holder for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and was named a top-nine finalist for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Anderson attended a bobsled/skeleton tryout in Tennessee this summer, and her athletic performance at the tryout earned her an invitation to attend a rookie camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. in August. During the 11-day rookie camp, athletes competed in several trials including sled pushes, track events (short sprints, shot put tosses, standing broad jumps), and weightlifting.

At the conclusion of these trials, Anderson won third place in the championship skeleton push competition and scored high enough across events to earn an invitation back to the Olympic Training Center for the winter for her rookie year.

She will spend November through March training in Lake Placid and in Park City, Utah, with her teammates and coaches.

Anderson’s training for the sport heavily consists of short sprints, and she extends thanks to Warren Sports Boosters for allowing her to train at the War Memorial track. She will also train in “explosive lifts” and sled push.
