Y’ville volleyball suffers region loss

Union City’s service game gave Youngsville fits all evening and the Bears walked out of the Youngsville High School gym with a 3-0 sweep of the Eagles Tuesday.

The Bears (3-2 overall, 2-2 Region 3) scored wins of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18.

“I’m proud of the fight we showed in the third game,” Youngsville coach Barb Lutton said. “Union City had a tough service game. One girl was really hard to receive. She had a jump serve and it dropped majorly. We just never got enough momentum going.”

Megan Foley had 14 service points and four kills for the Eagles (2-5, 0-3). Andrea Sveda had 11 digs and two blocks and Amber Evans added 10 service points-including three aces-seven assists and four digs.

“Megan had a nice service game for us and Andrea played a nice defensive game,” Lutton said.

The Eagles will welcome cross-county rival Sheffield to the Eagles Nest Thursday.

The Eagles won the first set, with the Bears taking the second in extra points before Youngsville closed out the win with an extra point victory in the third.

“This was another great team effort,” Youngsville coach Vicky Straub said. “They fought for the win.”
