Youngsville begins campaign with win

OIL CITY, Pa. – Youngsville opened up its 2018 volleyball season with a thrilling win over Oil City in five sets, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 13-25, 16-14.

It was a total team effort, and as a team, the Lady Eagles have a totally different vibe about them.

“They played really hard and I couldn’t be more proud of them, “ said Youngsville coach Barb Lutton. There’s just a different feel this year.”

Leading the way were Amber Evans (17 service points), Taylor Walters (8 service points), Maddie Uplinger (12 service points) and Kamryn Weissinger (10 kills).

“The fourth game we had some service-reception errors, but I think that was just some first-game jitters,” Lutton said. “They have a fight that they didn’t have last year. They’re is a real family feel about this team.”

The JV squad was also a winner, 2-0 (25-14, 25-18).

Mallory Sherrard (6 service points, 2 kills) and MiKayla Eyler helped lead the charge.

“They worked hard and played together,” Lutton said.

The Lady Eagles look to start the season 2-0 when they travel to Saegertown on Tuesday.
