Warren volleyball scores big win over GM

EDINBORO, Pa. – It’s a new season.

In 2017, Warren’s dreams of its first-ever District 10 volleyball title were thwarted by General McLane.

And, although it’s still early in the 2018 regular season, Thursday was a sweet win for the Dragons, as they beat GM 3-1 (25-14, 16-25, 25-3, 25-15).

And yes, that score in the third set is correct.

“We had a let- down in the second set where we weren’t able to pass well enough to get into our offense. We also missed several serves. But the rest of the games we played very well,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan.

There were a number of standouts for Warren in this one, led by Celia Chase (18 kills, 9 digs), Lydia Latimer (10 kills, 19 digs, 7 aces), Lex Nyquist (35 assists, 5 digs), Jordan Sitler (8 kills), Grace Wortman (10 digs, 2 aces), Ellie Lobdell (3 kills, 5 digs) and Julia Lobdell (3 digs).

“Lex did a great job distributing the ball as usual,” Dolan said. “Celia had a huge game attacking. Grace really picked us up at the start of the third set, serving and keeping them out of system while Lydia was dominating the net and also later at the service line. Jordan had a big game attacking and Ellie and Julia were their usual steady selves, controlling the ball.”

The JV team fell 2-0, 24-26, 23-25.

Meredith Morrison (3 kills, 3 aces), Olivia English (6 kills), Ailsa Boger (4 kills) Katie Madigan (10 assists), Katie Moore (3 digs) and Cara Munksgard (3 kills) paced Warren.

The JV team is at the Union City Tournament on Saturday, while varsity returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Villa.
