Sheffield drops defensive battle with Cameron Co.

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Cameron County’s Damien Erickson recovered a blocked punt and walked into the end zone from 2 yards out with 5:10 to go in the first half for the only score of what was a 6-0 Red Raider victory over Sheffield on Friday.

Sheffield had the ball inside the Cameron County 30 yard-line on five different occasions, but was unable to score

Their best chance came early in the fourth quarter, after a Christian Richetti run set them up with a first-and-goal from the 3.

The next play was a fumble that rolled out of the back of the end zone, ending the threat.

Richetti and Kevin Marfink both had strong games running the football, while Ethan Finch had a sack on defense in a contest that kicked off at 6 p.m. because of impending thunderstorms.

Ebon Jackson had a strong game for the Red Raiders (1-4), rushing for over 100 yards.

The win for the Red Raiders was the first since a 30-29 win over the Wolverines on Oct. 20 of last year.

The Wolverines were oh-so-close to ending a losing streak that now stands at 15 games, dating back to a 54-14 win over Youngsville at the end of the 2016 season.
