American Cancer Society tournament returning to CVCC

For the 41st year, the American Cancer Society Golf Tournament will be held in Warren County.

And it’s going back to a familiar home.

The Conewango Valley Country Club will once again play host to the event on Wednesday, Aug.8 (1 p.m. shotgun start), which is in the charge of the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry (WCCBI).

“We’re going back to the tournament’s roots,” said WCCBI Director of Chamber Operations and Tourism John Papalia.

“This tournament has been a long-standing tradition in the community and you don’t always see a lot of that.”

It’s an event which got its start under the direction of John Zawacki, and had raised over $1.4 million dollars in its tenure.

“That’s a tribute to the players and the sponsors that have come on board over the years,” Papalia said.

Their will also be a change in format from last year, with the tournament going back to the traditional play your own ball format as opposed to a scramble.

The cost is $100 for a single player and $400 for a a foursome.

Lunch and dinner will be provided, as well as a large number of prizes.

It’s a day of fun for a great cause.

“It’s a way for people to come together to fight against cancer, and it’s a fun way to do it,” Papalia said. “I really believe people understand that it’s much more than just golf. I don’t think anyone can argue the success and we’re looking forward to pushing toward that next million.”

The Chamber is also thrilled to have the event back at CVCC.

“The course is always in great shape and the staff is really easy to work with,” noted Papalia.

A great cause on a pristine course with great food and phenomenal people – it really doesn’t get much better than that.

Anyone who needs additional information is encouraged to contact Papalia at the WCCBI either by email – jpapalia@wccbi.org or by phone – (814) 723-3050.
