Rocky Grove, Meadville to play in state semi-finals at Slippery Rock Monday

There will be a District 10 doubleheader during the PIAA state baseball semi-finals Monday at Slippery Rock.

Rocky Grove and Meadville will be playing for a trip to the state championship game.

The Orioles will take the field at Critchfield Park first when they take on District 7’s (WPIAL) Cardinal Wuerl in a 2A at 4 p.m. Rocky Grove comes in on a six-game winning streak, with all the victories by a margin of at least three runs. They blanked Union City, 10-0, in the D-10 title game before taking out Neshannock, 5-1, and Southern Huntingdon, 7-3, in the state tournament. The winner will meet either Camp Hill (District 3) or Schuykill Haven (District 11) in the 2A championship game Thursday at Penn State with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs are set to face Ringgold, also out of the WPIAL, in a 4A semi-final game beginning at 6:30 p.m. Meadville has won 11 of its last 12 games, with the lone loss a 4-2 setback against Grove City in the D-10 title game. While the Bulldogs have been winning, it’s been in much more thrilling fashion. Five of their last six wins have been by one run and three of the last four victories have been extra inning affairs. A win sets up a matchup with either Valley View (District 2) or Northwest Lehigh (District 11) in Penn State Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
