Post 135 Jr. Legion uses 8-run first inning to beat Saegertown

Post 135’s Ethan Wilson gets caught in a rundown between third and home during the first inning of Tuesday’s game against Saegertown. Wilson ultimately scored on the play as Post 135 went on to a 10-4 win.

An 8-run first inning lifted Post 135 to a 10-4 Jr. Legion win over Saegertown Post 205 on Tuesday in Junior Legion action.

Tyler Gustafson was in command both on the mound and at the plate. He tossed four shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Offensively, he was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

He got it going right away for Post in the bottom of the first with a single, the first of 13 batters to come to the plate in the inning.

James Swanson reached on an error and Ben Berdine laced a double into the gap, bringing in both Gustafson and Swanson for a 2-0 lead. Hunter Loomis followed with an RBI single, Ethan Wilson was hit by a pitch and Zach Rohlin’s RBI single brought in Loomis. Wilson was caught between third and home on the play, but managed to work his way out of the rundown and score. J.T. Blum reached on an error, Ben White walked and Gustafson followed with his second single of the inning to plate Rohlin. Swanson capped the frame with a 2-run single, scoring Blum and White.

All that offense was more than enough for Gustafson, who allowed just one runner to reach scoring position in his four innings of work.

Post struck for two more runs in the third, courtesy of an RBI single from Gustafson and an error.

Dylan Maeder came on in relief of Gustafson in the fifth, with Saegertown plating a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit.

Loomis recorded the final six outs of the game, allowing one run and striking out a pair.

Wilson had a strong game at the plate, which included nabbing a runner attempting to steal second base.

Seven players recorded at least one hit for Post 135, which returns to action on Thursday.
