Player of the Year

Warren's Ellie Lobdell was named Region 6 Player and Pitcher of the Year.

Ellie Lobdell had a phenomenal year for the Warren Lady Dragons, and she was rewarded for it by earning Region 6 Player of the Year and Region 6 Pitcher of the Year, as voted on by the region coaches.

Lobdell helped lead Warren to the Region 6 title and runner-up finish in District 10 Class 4A. She was joined on the first team by second baseman Julia Lobdell, shortstop Lex Nyquist and center fielder Gracie Wood, while freshman Jordan Sitler earned second team at designated player.

On the mound, Lobdell was simply dominant this season. She went 12-4 with a 0.86 ERA. She struck out 192 in her 114 innings, and allowed just 27 walks and six extra base hits. The walk total she more than cut in half from the 56 she issued as a sophomore. But it was more than just the numbers – the junior standout simply overpowered hitters, including a pair of no-hitters over Franklin. She kept offenses off-balance with an improved change-up and had very little in the way of hard contact against her all season.

At the plate, she tied for the team lead in home runs with four, joining teammates Celia Chase and Kiersten Hoffman. She had a .382 average and drove in 15 runs.

Julia Lobdell, a junior and Nyquist, a sophomore, combined to form a strong up the middle defensive combo, while also both excelling at the plate.

Lobdell’s ability to handle the bat was equally as impressive as her defensive play. She hit .321 with five doubles, nine RBI and 13 runs scored. Both she and Nyquist had a knack for getting clutch hits.

Speaking of Nyquist, she hit .439 with five doubles, a triple and a home run, driving in 16 and scoring a team-high 25 runs. She also stole a team-high nine bases and sported an on-base percentage of .537.

Wood, meanwhile patrolled center field and at the plate hit .338 with a team-high four triples. She had 16 RBI and swiped seven bags.

Sitler was the lone freshman to earn Region 6 honors, hitting .393 with 17 runs scored and 11 RBI. Much like Wood, she used her speed to her advantage, legging out a number of infield hits and stole six bases.

Hoffman and Chase were tough-luck omissions from the team. Chase hit .465 with 33 RBI, which were tops in Region 6, while Hoffman hit .397 with 22 RBI and nine extra-base hits. Her 21 runs scored were second on the team.

Both are on the ballot for the Class 4A All-State team, which will be released later this summer. Chase’s 33 RBIs are tops among all first baseman on the ballot.
