Knights fall to Bears in finale

Eisenhower’s Paul Swanson shares a laugh with assistant coach Rick Rohlin during Monday’s game against Union City at Werner Perk. The Knights finished the season with a record of 4-10

Union City erupted for seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0, 6-inning win over Eisenhower in the season finale for the Knights.

Gens started the game on the mound and gave way to Smelko in the second inning. Smelko pitched well in his five innings of work, striking out seven and walking one, allowing three unearned runs.

Teagan Gray and Drew Williams had the Knights’ two hits.

Shad Haskins, Jamon Higley and Jason Dougherty combined on the shutout for Bears (13-4), who can wrap up the Region 3 title with a win over Maplewood today. Higley went three innings and struck out six.
