Girls 1600 relay secures road sweep for Warren

FRANKLIN – The Warren track and field teams traveled to Franklin on Tuesday and came away with a pair of wins – the boys 90-60 and the girls 80-70.

The girls needed a win in the 4×400 relay to preserve the win, and the quartet of Gabby Hahn, Bri Ristau, Naomi Hahn and Lydia Latimer did just that with a time of 4:31.5.

Warren won all three relays, in fact.

Naomi Hahn and Kayla Giambrone went 1-2 in the 1600 and 3200, while Latimer took first in the 400 and high jump.

Ristau raced to victory in the 800, while Myah Madril and Trinity Wennberg made it a clean sweep in the jumps, winning the triple and long respectively.

“Coming home with a win on the road feels great and it wasn’t an easy win by any means,” said Warren coach Elizabeth Beardsley. “We had tough matchups in the field and we rose to the occasion. The girls in the 4×400 relay knew they needed to pull off a win, and they did. They ran their fastest time of the season and qualified for districts – it was very exciting.”

The boys won 12 of 18 events, with Troy Shattuck, Noah Butcher and Kyle Adams taking two firsts each.

Shattuck raced to wins in the 400 and 800, while Adams won in the 200 and long jump and finished second to teammate Joey Sidon in the triple jump.

Butcher, meanwhile, won the 110 hurdles and the javelin. Shattuck was also on the winning 1600 and 3200 relay teams and Adams the winning 400 relay team.

Nathan Edwards raced to victory in the 100 and Zach Zinger tossed a winner in the discus.

“We took first place in 12 of 18 events to lead us to victory today,” noted Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “On the track, Nathan Edwards, Kyle Adams, Troy Shattuck, and Noah Butcher led the way finishing first in their events. In the field Joey Sidon, Kyle Adams, Noah Butcher, and Zach Zinger took firsts in theirs. We had many personal bests and are looking to get everyone prepared for the last few meets to try and qualify some more for Districts.”
