Youngsville, Ike drop Region 3 games

Youngsville shortstop Nyko Mercado flips to second base for a force out during Monday’s Region 3 game against visiting Cochranton.

A 6-run third inning helped Cochranton break open a close game against Youngsville en route to a 14-2, 5-inning win over the host Eagles.

The Cardinals struck for a pair of runs in the first inning, but Youngsville scored in the second to cut the deficit in half, when Brysten Turner swiped home on a double steal.

The Eagles scored their second run in the third inning, with a Nyko Mercado single bringing in Alex Kemery.

Jacob DeSimone started on the mound for Youngsville and went 2 1/3 innings. He was relieved by Mercado and Kemery.

Cameron Snyder went 3-for-3 with two RBI for Cochranton, while Zach Snedeker had a triple and three RBI. Alex McKay and Trent Hittle also drove in two each for the winners.

The Eagles return to action Wednesday, hosting Eisenhower in the Backyard Brawl.

UNION CITY – Drew Williams had a pair of hits and RBIs, but Eisenhower dropped a 10-5 Region 3 decision to Union City on Monday.

The Knights struck in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead, but the Bears scored four runs each in the second and third innings to take control of the game 8-2.

Garrett Kesselring and Nathan Solliwoda had two RBIs each for Union City.

Dakota Chase started on the mound for Eisenhower, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out five in his four innings of work.

Owen Trumbull went two innings, striking out three.

Jared Beers also had a pair of hits for Eisenhower, while Chase, Zach Rohlin and Teagan Gray all had RBIs for Ike
