Sheffield falls to J’burg

A day after picking up a win for the first time in over three years, the Sheffield softball team let one slip away against visiting Johnsonburg Friday.

The Wolverines held a 4-3 lead after four innings, but the Rams exploded for 13 runs through the final three innings on their way to a 16-4 win.

“The wheels on the cart fell off,” Sheffield coach Mark Maines said.

Sheffield committed 10 errors in the game, eight of them coming in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

“We are going to be better,” Maines said. “Just when, I don’t know.”

Mya Grubbs scored two of the Wolverines’ four runs in the game and Jerika Dexter had the team’s only extra base hit, a double in the third inning.

“I am proud of this team,” Maines said. “Win or lose, they show up and go hard.”

Sheffield is scheduled to host cross-county rival Youngsville Monday.
