Late rally leads Kane to rout of Sheffield

A 7-run fifth inning broke a close game wide open as Kane defeated visiting Sheffield 16-5 Friday.

The Wolves held an 8-5 advantage going into what would prove to be the final inning.

“It’s a disappointing outcome because there is no reason we couldn’t play with them,” Sheffield coach Mark Maines said. “We were very much in this game.”

The Wolverines had severly key errors that led to runs scored for Kane.

“We had five or six errors, not counting balls that should have been caught,”Maines said.

Marissa Grubbs went 3-3 with a double and had seven strikeouts while taking the loss on the mound. Emily Leichtenberger also doubled.

Sheffield will try to end its lengthy losing streak when the Wolverines host Johnsonburg Monday.
