Eagles’ track and field earns win over Titusville

Aaron Morris and the Eagles earned a win over Titusville on Tuesday.

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Coming off a strong performance at the Fairview Invitational, Youngsville’s track team traveled to Titusville Tuesday and came away with a split.

The boys defeated the Rockets 78-71, while the girls dropped a 99-49 decision to the Rockets.

“The boys pulled out another win over Titusville, winning 12 of the 18 events,” Youngsville coach Michelle Johnson said. “We had some good performances and are pleased with how these kids are pulling together and working as a team.”

Noah Myers and Aaron Morris were three time winners on the track, with both adding a relay win to their two individual victories.

Myers took the 100 and 200 and was part of the 4×100 relay team. Morris came away with wins in both hurdles as well as being part of the 4×400 relay.

In the field, Jake Hogg swept the jumps while Jordan Keyes won the discus and javelin.

“Some of our newcomers are still trying to figure out their strengths and how they can best benefit the team,” Johnson said. “We had kids step up to fill some spots today and they did great.”

While the boys were racking up individual wins, the girls struggled against a tough Rockets squad. Naomi Swartzbaugh swept the hurdles and Linsey Jukes won the 100 and 200. Alyssa Molek was the only other individual winner, taking first in the javelin. The Eagles also took first in the 4×400 relay.

“The girls lost but not because of lack of effort,” Johnson said. “Our numbers definitely affect our ability to walk away with an overall win. But the girls are consistent and are willing to work and fill in when needed.”

The Eagles are scheduled to travel to Corry Thursday before heading to the Harbor Creek Invitational Saturday.
