Dragon swimmers ready for D-10 championships

Members of the Warren Area High school swim team who will be competing at the District 10 championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH on Friday and Saturday share a smile during practice.

Andrew Beyer and Lydia Latimer lead a strong contingent of Warren swimmers at the District 10 Class 3A swimming championships, which begin today and conclude on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.

Latimer, who went to states last season, is seeded third in the 50 freestyle at 25.84, with top seed Emma Louie of McDowell seeded at 24.56 and Meadville’s Erin McCartney checking in at 25.61. Latimer is also second in the 100 backstroke at 1:02.44, with top seed Jordan Nuzback of McDowell seeded at 1:01.01.

Beyer, meanwhile, is the top seed in the 200 IM at 2:08.63, with his top challenger No. 2 seed Matthew Su of McDowell, who is seeded with a time of 2:11.14. He is also seeded second in the 100 backstroke at 57.21. Ryan Snyder of McDowell is the top seed at 57.21.

Also for the boys, Connor Guiffre is seeded eighth in the 50 free and third in the 100 fly, Cade Johnson sixth in the 100 free and fifth in the 500 free, while Stephen Ashbaugh is seeded third in the 100 breaststroke, an event in which teammate Seth Harrington is seeded eighth.

For the girls, Cara Anderson is seeded sixth in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 fly, Emily Savedge seventh in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free, Sabrina Johnson eighth in the 200 free, Paige Johnson sixth in the 200 IM second in the 100 breaststroke and Gabrielle Hahn fifth in the 50 free.

Swimming gets underway today with the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 100 fly and 200 free relay, while the 100 free, 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 400 free relay will be on Saturday.
