Youngsville edges Tidioute

Youngsville’s boys held off a late Tidioute rally to come away with a 28-23 win at Tidioute Wednesday.

The Eagles had a 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but a 3-pointer and shooting 80 percent from the free throw line in the period nearly brought the Bulldogs all the way back.

“Playing in close games is a great experience for our young team,” Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof said. “It will be something we continue to get better at.”

The win came on the heels of a tough 63-44 loss at Maplewood Tuesday.

“It says a lot about our boys’ resilience and character to bounce back and get this hard fought win,” DeLoof said. “I don’t think the game at Maplewood was a good depiction of how this team can play.”

Four players finished with eight points, two from each team. Julian Gillenwater and Patrick Shields led Tidioute, while Gage Hendrickson and Joe Mack paced Youngsville.

The Eagles now turn their attention to another cross-county rival as they travel to Eisenhower Friday to renew the backyard brawl with the Knights.
