Rapidly improving Eagles beat Iroquois for first Region 3 win, 52-49

Youngsville’s Austin Peterson scored 13 points as the Eagles beat Iroquois 52-49 for their first Region 3 win on Saturday.

Despite their record, Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof knows his young team has been making progress. On Saturday, Iroquois found out the hard way just how much better the Eagles have gotten.

Freshman Austin Peterson led three players in double figures with 13 points as Youngsville earned its first Region 3 win of the season, 52-49 over the Braves.

“The boys really deserved this one,” said DeLoof.

The Eagles (3-13 overall, 1-8 Region 3) took an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter and were able to hold off a late rally by the Braves.

Peterson and Noah Myers knocked down some key free throws in the fourth to preserve the win.

Sophomore Gage Hendrickson had 12 points in the win and freshman Timber Bower 10.

Koby McLean had 15 points to pace Iroquois (8-7, 5-4).

Youngsville will look to carry momentum to its next game on Tuesday at Union City.
