Eisenhower girls edge Iroquois

LAWRENCE PARK – Eisenhower hit the road on Monday night and came home victorious with a 30-28 victory over Region 3 foe Iroquois.

While not clicking on all cylinders offensively, Eisenhower’s defense was strong as the Lady Knights held Iroquois to eight points or less in every quarter.

“A win is a win is a win. But we came out sluggish, and that’s my fault,” said Ike coach Mike Logue, whose team improves to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in region play. “It’s my job to have them ready, and for whatever reason we weren’t ready to go today.”

Ike led 20-15 at halftime and held on with a strong defensive effort in the second half.

“We had a decent lead at halftime, but we let them climb back into it a little bit,” Logue said. “In the fourth quarter we tried to slow things down, we got some really good looks, but they didn’t all fall.”

Emiley Wheeler had a big game for Eisenhower, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Lydia Giannini added 7 points, while Payton Mineweaser (2 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) and Delaney Nizzi (5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) had strong overall games.

Eisenhower also won the JV game, 39-15 behind 19 points from Delaney Chase.

SAEGERTOWN 46, YOUNGSVILLE 34

Youngsville hung tough with the team directly in front of them in the Region 3 standings on Monday, but at the end of the night they came out on the short end of a 46-34 decision against Saegertown.

“We were in the game all night,” said Youngsville coach Andy Sveda. “We made some fundamental errors at the end in terms of not taking care of the ball which cost us.”

The Lady Eagles trailed by seven going into the fourth quarter, but Saegertown (10-5 overall, 6-4 Region 3) outscored them 16-11 over the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Caitlin Craig had another big game for Youngsville (7-9, 4-6) with 21 points.

Katelyn Young led Saegertown with 14 points.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Thursday at Region 3 leader Cambridge Springs.
