Warren falls to Southwestern

JAMESTOWN, NY – Even the best plans can be thwarted when something unexpected happens.

Such was the case for the Warren Lady Dragons on Saturday against Southwestern, as a strong game plan had to be thrown out the window less than a minute into the game when senior point guard Autumn Hultberg went down with an injury.

Hultberg wasn’t able to return and Southwestern took advantage of a Warren team that had to adjust on the fly. The result was a 64-37 win for the home team.

“We were just a little shell-shocked,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan. “I’m looking forward to playing them at full power at the end of the regular season.”

Thankfully, Hultberg will be back, but Southwestern was able to get out to a 16-4 start after the first quarter.

Erin Radak had a strong game for Southwestern, scoring a game-high 18 points, while Alanna Dibble had 16 and Izzy Bursch 15.

“They execute well,” LaVan said. “They had us backpedaling and they knew it. They had a good inside presence and quality guards.”

Margo Loutzenhiser had another strong game offensively, scoring 16 points to lead the now 1-2 Lady Dragons, while also notching five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Gracie Wood added seven points for Warren, which has little rest with another tough road game today at Erie High.

“Erie has a new coaching staff, but the same players,” noted LaVan. “We’re excited.”
