Warren drops battle at McDowell

ERIE – Warren was able to get on the mat for its opening match of the season on Thursday, and the results was a hard-fought 42-27 setback at McDowell.

Liam Stevenson (170) and Alex Anderson (126) won by pin for the Dragons, while Gannon commit Owen Balas earned a technical fall at 152 and Avery Smith a major decision at 120.

Ryan Madigan also received a forfeit at 113 for the Dragons.

“There are some inexperienced guys on both teams and we kind of thought it would be back and forth,” said Warren coach Dean Johnson. “We’ll keep fighting and be ready for next time.”

Kyle Swick, going against Kyle Ciotti, a seventh place finisher at states last year, battled well into the third period before being pinned at the 5:34 mark.

“Kyle wrestled amazing against Ciotti,” Johnson noted.

The Dragons return to action today at the STOWA Tournament in Dunkirk.
