WAHS swimmers sweep Meadville

Both the Warren boys and girls swim teams came away with wins against visiting Meadville Thursday.

The boys won 91-79, while the girls beat the Bulldogs 94-81.

“Both the boys and girls team competed hard. Every event, we were right there,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “It was a very close meet and I think our kids responded to it pretty well.”

Stephen Ashbaugh and Andrew Beyer were both dual winners for the Dragons. Ashbaugh won the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, while Beyer took first in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. The pair were also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams with Connor Guiffre and Cade Johnson. Johnson also had a district-qualifying time in the 100 free.

“It seemed like each kid rose to the occasion and performed their best,” Beyer said.

Paige Johnson won both the 200 individual medley and 100 breast to lead the girls team. Lydia Latimer had the only other individual win (100 backstroke). The 200 free relay team of Latimer, Sabrina Johnson, Gabrielle and Ellie Hahn, also took first.

“We didn’t get a lot of firsts,” Beyer said. “But we did get a lot of second and thirds. Everybody contributed and did their part.”

The teams will travel to Bradford Monday.
