WAHS runners compete at states

Warren Area High School girls cross country team members Naomi Hahn and Michaela Giambrone finished their 2017 season by competing at the PIAA State Championships in Hershey Saturday.

“This is not a forgiving course and both girls ran smart and executed the race plan well,” said Warren assistant coach Elizabeth Beardsley.

Hahn finished 53rd overall with a time of 20:35. Hahn missed a top-50 finish by three seconds, though the sophomore should certainly be in the mix for the next two seasons. Giambrone’s 21:36 was good for 141st, and the junior runner can build on the experience as she heads into her senior season.

“Naomi ran one of her best times of the season here and really worked her way up through the pack,” Beardsley said. “Likewise, Kayla turned in her fastest showing for this course. All in all, we’re very proud of the way they ran and happy to end the season at the State Championships.”
