Youngsville bested by Kennedy Catholic

MEADVILLE – Youngsville was giving Kennedy Catholic everything they wanted and then some in the quarterfinals of the District 10 Class 1A volleyball playoffs on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles lost the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-10, but rallied in the third to post an impressive 25-17.

What followed, however, was something no one could have predicted.

KC stepped to the service line in set four and never left, winning 25-0 and taking the match 3-1.

Nevertheless, Youngsville coach Barb Lutton was proud of her team’s performance.

“It’s a great way to end the season,” she said. “They played as a team and won one set. I’m very proud of them, especially missing three key players.”

Leading the Lady Eagles were led by Kamryn Weissinger (9 service points, 4 kills, 2 blocks), Maddie Uplinger (3 kills, 4 service points), Amber McAfoose (5 kills, 1 block), Andrea Sveda (3 kills, 5 service points, 1 block), Amber Evans (6 service points, 7 assists) and Morgan Silvis (2 digs, did well on serve-receive).

“The assistant coach (Vicky Straub) and I kept looking at each other and thinking ‘Is this really happening?'” Lutton said of the third set.

She also believes that this will serve as a momentum-builder for the program.

“It was a fantastic experience and great preview of what’s to come,” she said. “Youngsville volleyball is looking strong, despite the record we had this year. We’ve really improved.”
