Knights keep winning streak going

OIL CITY – The Lady Knights continued their winning streak with a 6-0 win against Oil City.

“I am so proud of the movement of the ball tonight,” said Eisenhower coach Diana Elmquist. “The girls were patient and made thoughtful passes.”

Caroline Smelko got the scoring started in the first half with an assist from TerryLee Talasky. Three and a half minutes later, a similar one two passing play by the pair got the ball into Talasky’s possession. She worked the ball across the field and into the center and skillfully found the back of the net.

The Knights kept the pressure on and Lydia Giannini found Patricia Bortz on the left hand side where Bortz one touched it past the goalie.

To cap off a strong scoring half TerryLee linked up with Aleea (Goose) Giese. Giese had a strong kick from the left side that deflected off the goalie’s hands into the right top corner.

Eisenhower came out roaring the second half as Leah Peterson netted her goal of the evening two minutes in.

“The girls played a really strong second half working on possession and getting used to the speed of turf looking forward to the playoffs,” Elmquist said.

With three minutes remaining, Rachel Fredrick capped off the evening scoring on a corner kick played in by Smelko.

“It was really great to see everyone work together and get touches on the ball again tonight,” Elmquist said.

Eisenhower is back in action Saturday at Smethport for the last game of the regular season.
