Ike girls blank Franklin 9-0
FRANKLIN – Eisenhower went on the road to Franklin and came away with a 9-0 win.
The Knights got the scoring started with a cross from Caroline Smelko and a shot by TerryLee Talasky that found the back of the net at 13 minutes into the first half. Two and a half minutes later a similar cross by Smelko found freshman Leah Peterson that bounced off the cross bar and Talasky followed to score again.
Lexi Head joined in on the scoring bringing the ball in to the goal from the right corner and putting it in unassisted. Leah Peterson found the net two times in the next five minutes, one assisted by Talasky and the other unassisted from the center.
The second half was just as productive for the Knights with Smelko scoring twice in the first five minutes of play.
Ten and a half minutes into play Lexi Head assisted Talasky with her third goal of the game. Rachel Frederick scored the final goal for the Knights with a penalty kick that shot past the goalie into the right corner of the net.
“The girls played a strong passing game and it was really great to see everyone get in and get touches on the ball,” said Eisenhower coach Diana Elmquist. “The entire team is coming together and working as a unit.”
