Lady Eagles score victory over county rival Sheffield, 13-6

Youngsville gets fired up before its game Tuesday against Sheffield.

It was a sweet senior night for Youngsville in its battle with county foe Sheffield.

The Lady Eagles scored seven runs in the second inning and Kathy Sveda and Rebekah Hogg belted home runs in a 13-6 victory on Tuesday.

Youngsville struck early and often as they honored their six seniors – Ali Ishman, Hannah Bulard, Kathy Sveda, Maddie Fehlman, Madi Mineweaser and Jaylea Walters after the third inning. By that point, they held a 12-1 advantage.

Sveda got them going early, drilling a 2-run home run in the first inning, part of a 3-for-3 effort with three runs scored and three RBI.

In the second inning, YHS sent 12 batters to the plate. Ishman had an RBI single, followed by a sac fly from Fehlman, an RBI single by Sveda, a 2-run single by Mineweaser and an RBI double from Erin Dunn. The Lady Eagles pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon.

When the dust settled after the second, it was a 9-0 ball game.

Sheffield had plenty of fight, however. They struck for their first run of the game in the third, as Claire Pierson scored her first of three runs on the day on an RBI groundout by Faite Smith.

The Youngsville bats weren’t done either. The Lady Eagles sent eight more batters to the plate in the bottom of the third, with Craig notching an RBI single and Dunn her second RBI double of the game.

Trailing 12-1, the Lady Wolverines plated a pair of runs in the fourth on an error and an RBI groundout by Kennidee Confer. They added another run in the fifth to make it 12-4, courtesy of an RBI groundout off the bat of Jasmine Vera.

Youngsville scored its 13th and final run of the afternoon when Hogg belted the second home run of the game for the home team, a solo shot.

Sheffield scored two runs in the seventh on a wild pitch and RBI single by Vera.

Pierson, one of two Sheffield seniors along with Alyssa Lydon, finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored to pace Sheffield, while Craig, Dunn and Mineweaser al had two hits and two RBI for Youngsville.
