Eisenhower drops battle to Kane

Eisenhower’s Drake Gens delivers a pitch during the third inning of Wednesday’s game against Kane.

A win wasn’t in the cards for Eisenhower in its regular season finale against Kane on Wednesday.

The Wolves were the beneficiary of three Ike errors that led to four unearned runs in a 6-2 non-region win over the Knights at Werner Park.

Jake Harvey had a big game for Ike, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and a pair of RBI, but it was Kane that struck first.

With two outs in the top of the first, Thomas Anderson hit a seeing eye ground ball to make it 1-0. The Wolves added another run in the second as Ty Stahli scored on a wild pitch.

Drake Gens came on to pitch in the third inning and tossed a pair of scoreless frames before Chad Gardner scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 3-0.

The Knights responded, however, as Harvey came up with two on and one out and laced a ball into the gap, scoring Chase Elmquist and Jeremy Carlson in the fifth. Ike was still in business, but Stahli induced a lineout off the bat of Justin Perrin to end the threat.

The Knights threatend again in the sixth, but Stahli was able to induce a strikeout with two on and two out.

Stahli came up with two on and two outs in the seventh and hit a ground ball that wasn’t fielded cleanly, scoring a pair and making it 5-2. Jacob Silvis followed with an RBI single that ran the score to 6-2.

The Knights once again got two on in the seventh, as Carlson was hit by a pitch and Harvey doubled, but the Wolves once again escaped damage and came away with the 6-2 victory.

After the game, the Knights honored their six seniors – Harvey, Elmquist, Carlson, Perrin, Spencer Gray and Adam Pascuzzi.

Eisenhower’s Nick Smelko gets a lead off of second base during Wednesday’s game against Kane at Werner Park.

Ike will try and put this one behind them, as they now turn their attention to the District 10 Class 2A playoffs. They will travel to Mercer to take on the Mustangs with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
