Eisenhower boys notch hard-fought victory

Eisenhower’s Trenten Dippold battles for position in the 1600-meter run. The boys had a number of athletes step up in what was an 85-64 victory over the visiting Bears.

Eisenhower had a number of athletes step up in notching an 85-64 home win over Union City on Thursday.

With a few familiar faces out of the lineup, the Knights got production across the board from both upperclassmen and youngsters alike.

“I thought the kids did well,” said Eisenhower coach Dave Allenson. “We were missing a few kids so we had some kids do some different things and a number of them stepped up and won events for us.”

The Knights had seven different athletes win individual events, led by Kelly Glotz and Brandon Sweet.

Glotz took to the track to win the 100 and 200 and then tossed a winning mark in the javelin. Sweet, meanwhile, was strong in the field, taking first in the discus and long jump.

Nate Holt (110 hurdles), Garrett Head (300 hurdles), Thomas Baran (800), Noah Senz (shot put) and

Carter Knapp (high jump) also took individual firsts.

The Knights also won the 4×100 and the 4×400 relays, with Glotz and Troy Myer on both. Knapp and Riley West were both on the winning 4×1 team and Owen Nizzi and Thomas Anderson teamed with Glotz and Myer in the 4×8.

The Knights, despite the absences, also showed off tremendous depth in cleaning up on second and third place finishes.

“We had a number of personal bests, so I was happy about that,” Allenson said. “The field events really came through for us tonight.”

Ike returns to action Saturday at the Kane Invitational.
