Tidioute girls fall just short against Calvary Baptist, 54-51

Just short.

The Tidioute girls built a first-half lead against Calvary Baptist in Friday’s senior night game, only to see the visitors come from behind to take a 54-51 win.

“We played an amazing first half but ran out of steam,” said TCCS coach Christy Valentine. “We had some foul trouble in the second half and (Calvary Baptist) snuck up and got us … Looking forward to the future, I’m pleased with being a first-year coach and seeing how much they’ve improved from the beginning of the season to the end of the season.”

Nettie Durstine had a double-double in her final game as a Lady Bulldog with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow senior Hanna Divido added seven points and seven boards while Laken Krouse finished with six points and five rebounds.

Nakiesha Krouse followed Durstine on the scoresheet with 14 points.

Friday was also Brain Aneurysm Awareness night at Tidioute Charter, with the teams raising over $1,000 from the game to be donated to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

BOYS

CALVARY 48, TIDIOUTE 41

Tidioute was dealt a 48-41 setback by Calvary in their season finale on Friday, but nevertheless showed tremendous progress as the season went on.

The young Bulldogs were led by Jared Veasy, who poured in 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

“It was a good effort,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “We were without Julian Gillenwater (starting point guard) and had some other guys step up. They beat us by 20 earlier in the year so this was a much better effort.”

The Bulldogs had a pair of freshman step up with Derek Klos scoring nine points and Dalton Kennedy adding five.

Sophomore Patrick Shields had nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Overall, Cotterman will return a core group of 10 players into the fold for next season.

“We knew going in we were young,” he said. “We matured throughout the year and got better as the games went. The next two years we’ve got everyone coming back, so that’s something to look forward to.”
