Sitler approved as new Warren softball skipper

There will be a new coach at the helm of the Warren Area High School softball program.

Mark Bupp, who compiled an astonishing record of 154-39 record and multiple District 10 championships, stepped down after a 10-year run of success.

He will be replaced by Jon Sitler, who was formally approved at Monday’s Warren County School District board meeting.

Sitler will inherit a team that is coming off a 16-4 season and returns six of nine starters. Seniors Megan Wortman and Maddie Loutzenhiser, who both hit over .400 last season, are back, as are Ellie Lobdell, Gracie Wood, Kiersten Hoffman and Celia Chase, among others.

Perhaps the biggest position the Lady Dragons will have to replace is at catcher, where Paige Wilson graduated after earning multiple all-state selections and hitting .568 as a senior with six home runs. Wilson is now the starting third baseman for the nationally ranked California (Pa.) Vulcans.

The spring sports season will get underway with the first official practice date this Monday, March 6.
