Tidioute girls score big win over Union City

Nettie Durstine fights for the ball in 46-43 win over Union City.

“We told the girls that both teams would have improved, and that we just wanted to improve more,” said an excited Tidioute Lady Bulldogs head coach Christy Valentine after their 46-43 win over visiting Union City.

Hanna Divido went eight of 14 at the line and hit three three-pointers, to lead the Lady Bulldogs with 21 points. Divido also pulled down nine rebounds.

“She stepped up big time for us,” Valentine said of Divido.

Tidioute ended the third with a 39-29 lead, that was almost lost, as the Lady Bulldogs were outscored 14-7 in the final quarter. Valentine attributed this nearly blown lead to the youth of the team.

“I’m going to be honest, they’re not used to not having to score,” said Valentine. “We’re young, very very young.”

Jared Veasey puts in an easy lay-up, Wednesday night, in a 69-56 loss to the visiting Union City Bears.

BOYS

UNION CITY 69, TIDIOUTE 56

Despite battling back from a 22 point deficit, Tidioute fell to visiting Union City, Wednesday night 69-56.

“The effort was there,” said Bulldogs’ head coach Terry Cotterman. “Our youth comes into play a lot. In the second half, they seemed to slow down a little bit better.”

Tidioute dug a  hole early, falling behind 35-15 by the end of the first half. However the Bulldogs battled back to actually outscore the Bears by seven points in the second half, but it just wasn’t enough.

“We talked about it,” said Cotterman. “We had fifteen turnovers in the first half. In the second quarter we had seven in a row and they scored off all of them. In the second half we only had eight turnovers.”
