Kane’s Bucheit scores 56 points to top 1,000 for career in win over Youngsville
KANE – Going into Thursday night’s game against Youngsville needing 53 points for 1,000 in his career, there really wasn’t any realistic chance Kane senior Andrew Bucheit would reach the milestone against the Eagles.
Except there was.
Bucheit exploded for 56 points, including 24 made shots from the floor in an 84-43 win over the visiting Eagles.
Bucheit’s 56 points are the most by a District 9 player since Cameron County’s Shane Goss also scored 56 in 1999. Bucheit and Goss are the only known players to score at least 56 in a game.
Despite a big lead, Bucheit played well into the fourth quarter of the win, scoring 10 of his team’s 15 points in the final period. Kane’s next four games are on the road.
In a 95-53 win over Sheffield on Jan. 5, Bucheit had another big game, going off for 43 points. He played nearly the duration of that game as well, prompting Sheffield coach Mike Knapp to say that Kane and coach Matt Gasbarre had ‘an agenda.’
Thursday’s result will surely raise some of those questions again. Sheffield will host Kane tonight.
Despite that, Bucheit became the fourth District 9 player to hit the 1,000-point mark this week, joining Elk County Catholic’s Nate DaCanal, Clearfield’s Tommy Hazel and Moniteau’s Kristina DeMatteis on the girls side.
Brady Kesterholt continued his strong play for Youngsville, scoring 13 points, while Levi Hendrickson also had 13.
