Eagles falter late in road setback
ERIE – Youngsville led 41-40 going into the fourth quarter of Friday’s Region 3 battle against Iroquois, but the host Braves went on a 22-5 run in the fourth to hand the Eagles a 62-46 setback.
“The wheels just kind of came off in the fourth quarter,”said Youngsville coach Jim Kesterholt. “We had too many turnovers and it kind of got away from us at the foul line. It’s frustrating.”
Wyatt Rugar was strong for Eagles (1-8 overall, 1-3 Region 3), scoring a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Trenton King and Koby McLean each had big games for the Braves (6-6, 4-1), scoring 21 points apiece.
Brady Kesterholt added 11 points for Youngsville, while coach Kesterholt also noted the strong rebounding of Seth Ecelberger, who pulled down eight and also had a pair of blocks.
The Eagles did win the JV game, 39-27. Dean Procter poured in 15 points, Dasan McAvoy 12 and Gage Hendrickson four.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday, hosting Maplewood.
