Baran has big night as Ike tops Union City

The Eisenhower Lady Knights got a career high 29 points from senior Kristen Baran and rolled to a 52-22 victory over visiting Union City on Thursday.

Baran also pulled down five rebounds and blocked three shots while single-handedly out-scoring the Lady bears by seven points.

Eisenhower’s margin of victory could have been even larger, but they struggled mightily at the free-throw line, shooting 12-48 (25 percent).

“The foul line, we obviously need to do a better job there,” said Ike coach Mike Logue. “And that’s not something you fix in December, that’s something you get good at in the offseason.”

Despite the free-throw struggles, Eisenhower was in control of the game from the start. The Lady Knights outscored Union City 20-5 in the first quarter and never saw their lead seriously threatened.

“Both teams played a physical game,” said Logue, whose team improved its record to 2-4. “We were very fortunate to have an advantage in size and to be able to get the ball into Kristen (Baran) consistently.”

Payton Mineweaser complimented Baran’s game with a 10-point, seven assist, and five rebound performance. Emily Wheeler also grabbed five boards and Delaney Nizzi had four steals.

Ike will return to action today when they host Sheffield in a county clash.

Eisenhower also won the JV game, 28-9. Alexis Courtney led the Lady Knights with seven points.
