Warren opens season with third place finish

ERIE – Warren’s girls golf team opened play Wednesday at JC Martin Golf Course in Erie, taking third out of five teams in the season’s first Region 3 megamatch.

Villa Maria moved up to 3A this year and finished in the top spot with a team score of 161. McDowell was second with 168, Warren came in at 177, and Meadville was fourth with 210. Strong Vincent did not have enough golfers to record a team score.

Villa Maria’s Ali Kloecker carded the lowest individual score with a 38 while Warren junior Rachel Wilson finished one shot back in a four-way tie for second. Wilson joined Villa’s Andrea McCormick and McDowell’s Claire Orr and Tori Berlin with a 39 on the day.

Following up Wilson on the Lady Dragons’ scorecard was Margo Loutzenhiser (42), Myah Madril (47), Laura Lucks (49), Maddie Loutzenhiser (50) and Cara Anderson (61). Coach Terry Wilson said of his team’s opener, “with only two girls with match experience I’m really pleased with the scores today.”
