Lady Dragons fall to tough McDowell team

ERIE – The Warren Lady Dragons were on the road again to McDowell High School for their second match of the season and fell to McDowell by a final score of 4-1.

In singles play, sophomore Gracie Wood fell victim to McDowell’s Lauren Fadden, 6-2, 6-0.

“Lauren is a very skilled and seasoned player, but Gracie put up a great effort,” said assistant coach Jon Meyer. Lauren’s sister, Lindsey is another force to be reckoned with as she defeated Warren’s Abbie Buerkle, 6-0, 6-0.

In the final singles match of the day, Warren’s Emily Grimm, playing her first singles match of the year, fell to Rosie Shaw, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Warren’s number one duo of Maribeth Miller and Rachel Cecco defeated Ashley Murrey and Sydney Stitt in a close match, 7-5, 7-5. “This team is working their way to play at the level the coaching staff expected,” said assistant coach Sheri Lemmon.

In the final varsity match, Haley Justice and first-year player Taylor Lester were defeated by Baily Sanders and Niya Rai, 6-0, 6-0.

In exhibition play, Lady Dragon senior rookie, Shalom Siakma won her first match 10-2.

“It’s great to watch new players, like Shalom, figure out how to play the game and put everything the coaches say into action,” said head coach John Parroccini.

The Lady Dragons play their home opener Friday against East/Central at Betts Park.
