Kevin Bonner, executive director of Chief Cornplanter Boy Scout Council, recently received the Cliff Dochterman Award, the highest honor of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians.
The award was presented to Bonnner by Fred Brenner, past district governor of Rotary District 7280 on Aug. 27 in recognition of his accomplishments in scouting and the Warren Rotary Club.
Bonner said, "It was completely unexpected, and I appreciate it."
Kevin Bonner, center, executive director of the Boy Scouts’ Chief Cornplanter Council, was presented the Cliff Dochterman Award, the highest honor of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians, for his accomplishments in both organizations. Warren Rotary Club President Brenda Jones and Fred Brenner, past district governor, congratulate Bonner for the award.
He said it was more like a reward for his 35 years in scouting and 25 years as a Rotarian.
The Rotary website explains that the award is presented to a qualified Rotarian who has displayed distinguished service and outstanding dedication to the Scouting program through contributions to the character development, leadership, citizenship and personal growth of members of the scouting association, recruiting and training volunteer scouting leaders and strengthening the relationship between Rotary and Scouting.
The major criteria for the award are work accomplishments and dedication, rather than the number of years spent in either organization.
Rotary District 7280 is composed of over 30 individual clubs in western Pennsylvania.
