Night work planned
Paving will be done on Pennsylvania Avenue, Third Avenue and possibly Hickory Street on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 24-25, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to Mike Holtz, City of Warren’s Department of Public Works director. He said on Friday that the paving will be done on Pennsylvania Avenue between Market and Liberty streets, from Hickory Street to Laurel Street, and on Third Avenue in the vicinity of General Joseph Warren Park. He added that if there is time, some paving will be done on Hickory Street as well. The paving and milling has been scheduled at night to avoid high traffic and to reduce inconvenience for drivers and crews, Holtz said. On Friday afternoon, a crew from Russell Standard was putting down a base coat of asphalt on Madison Avenue. The job took longer than expected, because the company’s asphalt plant in Uniontown was down for repairs and the asphalt had to be trucked from Erie. A riding coat will be applied next week. Workers on the crew expected the plant to be up and running for the next round of paving.
