The Crary Gallery sign might not be a zoning issue. I have yet to meet one who has not thought approvingly of that appropriate and well designed sign that had appeared on the Gallery which is also appreciated as a community asset.
The problem is more the public (City Council) perception that a group of dignified and well respected directors proceeded without authority to exceed a required sign limitation due to perceived power. The public perceives the assumed power of a group to have their way regardless. This perception exists about GE in Erie and Northwest Savings Bank in Warren but they follow the rules and seek approval in spite of power and usually work it out. Can we not do it with this proposed sign?
